WEEK 1 RECAP

 

Game of the Week: Riley's Vikings (92) @ Campbell's Cougars (90)

 

Amid a storm of controversy, much of which was brought upon himself, Coach Adam Warren managed to maintain the focus of his team and escaped Columbia, TN with a narrow two point victory over Campbell's Cougars. Following a trade veto which left Warren and Coach Daniel Campbell vehemtly upset with fellow league members, members of the media questioned the mindset of Riley's Vikings entering their tough Week 1 matchup on the road. The Vikings never blinked, however, as RG3 put his name in national lights by putting up 28 points in his BHFFC debut. Not to be outdone, the sherriff Peyton Manning returned to the gridiron to the tune of 24 points, putting the Cougars within 5 points of victory with Ronnie Brown left to play on MNF. It was not to be for the Cougars though, as the Vikings' defense stiffened and limited Brown to a mere two point performance to secure the Week 1 victory.

 

Week 1 Highlights

 

Run DMC's bench outscored their starters 81-76...Safety Blitz and Run DMC played to the first tie in BHFFC league history...Three teams scored over 100 points in Week 1...Three teams scored at least 90 points and lost in Week 1...Home teams went 1-4-1 in Week 1...Favorited went 2-3-1 in Week 1...Young Gun Football posted a league high 121 points...Matt Ryan lived up to the preseason hype by posting a league high 37 points in Week 1...Julio Jones led all WR with 22 points...Ray Rice, Kevin Smith, and Stevan Ridley led all starting RB with 20 points...Jimmy Graham led all TE with 14 points...Matt Bryant led all claimed kickers with 17 points...The Jets and Ravens led all claimed DEF with 19 points.

Week 2 Preview

 

Game of the Week: The Can't Beat Anybody's (-9) @ Young Gun Football

 

Two of the highest scoring offenses in the history of the BHFFC lock horns in Oakdale this weekend as The Can't Beat Anybody's travel to face Young Gun Football. Coach Ethan Hudson will have to overcome another unusually poor performance from Aaron Rodgers in order to pull off the victory. Look for Hudson to rely heavily on his twin TE set with Jimmy Graham and Vernon Davis to exploit a weakness in his opponent. Coach Jason Young's squad is off to a great start behind the Packer DEF and will look for Matt Ryan and Julio Jones to continue their Week 1 mastery in leading their squad to victory. This game could easily be decided by Roddy White and Julio Jones and which receiver has a bigger game on MNF.

 

Around the League

 

BHFFC teams have conducted 10 waiver claims since this past Tuesday...No trades have taken place yet, although many rumors have been swirling regarding the trade market...Eight teams are projected to score 100 points or more in Week 2, led by YGF with 119...Aaron Rodgers was projected to lead all players in Week 2 with 30 points...Adrian Foster is projected to lead all RB with 21 points...Larry Fitzgerald is projected to lead all WR with 17 points...Rob "Porn Star" Gronkowski is projected to lead all TE with 15 points...The hapless Bengals are projected to lead all DEF with 12 points...Greg Zuerlein is projected to lead all K with 13 points...If you are anything like me, you are asking "Who the hell is Greg Zuerlein?"...Week 2 is the second straight week of divisional matchups...Week 3 will be the first non-divisional week of matchups...Toejam Football's four game winning streak (dating back to last season's playoffs) was snapped in Week 1.

Clear the Air….

1. Apology

Let me start by saying that I apologize if my comments regarding the trade veto were taken by some to be a personal shot or offensive in any way. I genuinely did not mean for that to occur. My comments were made in a locker room joking manner. I know that text and emails are sometimes hard to determine a joke from anger, so I apologize for the confusion. In the future, any comments I might make please always assume that they are a joke, because they will be. This is fantasy football, I promise that I am here for fun and any personal attacks (jokes) are done to be funny, not to make anyone angry. I greatly appreciate all the work PC puts into this league. He does a great job.

2. Trade Veto

However, I still do believe that my trade with DMC being Vetoed was wrong. Let me explain. I believe that the veto is a good tool to regulate the league from those who wish to intentionally screw things up by intentionally making unfair trades.

Trade Vetoed: Bradshaw, Jennings FOR Richardson, Johnson

My Explanation:

I really wanted Richardson in the draft (even before Jennings) but thought I would be able to get him in later rounds ,which clearly did not work out. So I set out to trade for him.

My current RB’s: Foster, Murray- 2 great RB’s, so I decided if I could get one more good rb I would be set. I have several other good receivers and decided that Jennings for Richardson was a good trade for my team. DMC did not want to trade a RB (Richardson) without getting one in return. So I decided to through in Bradshaw because if I got Richardson I would not need him anyway. I put in a request for Johnson also because many feel he is going to have a good year. But the bottom line was I was loosing Jennings in return for Richardson.

What I believe the Veto standard to be:

Are both owners attempting to win/improve their team? If Yes=Approve Trade

OR

Is this trade an obvious attempt by one or both team owners to make a transaction that will unfairly benefit one team? If Yes=Decline Trade

Example: Me trading Foster for a bench kicker simply because I am pissed at the league and wish to screw it up= Obvious Decline

The standard the League used to veto last week:

Do I (voter) think this is a good trade?

OR

Would I accept a trade such as this?

I argue that this is the improper standard. Just because you think the trade is dumb, or you personally would not accept the trade does not mean you should veto 2 teams who are attempting in their minds to better their team. Part of the fun of fantasy football is to take risks. Here, I was obviously taking a risk that might or might not have been a good one. I am confident that if I polled everyone in the league, everyone would agree that DMC and Riley’s Vikings both want to win badly. Thus, clearly not reaching the veto standard.

3. Moving On

Now that this is over I will not be holding any grudges. I will not veto trades simply because ours was. I will vote on trades using the simple standard listed above and I hope everyone else reevaluates how they vote on trades as well. I look forward to another fun season!

Welcome back BHFFC fans! I am pleased to greet you to the third opening weekend of fantasy football in the BHFFC. I look forward to another great season in the greatest fantasy football league in all the land!

Game of the Week: Riley's Vikings (Even) @ Campbell's Cougars

These two former roommates turned married men face off in the most evenly matched, on paper, contest of the week. Despite trying to trade all of them away, Coach Adam Warren will depend heavily on Ahmad Bradshaw and Greg Jennings this week as his squad seeks a tough road victory. Coach Matthew Campbell will depend on the home crowd to fuel the fire of potential comeback player of the year Peyton Manning and Desean Jackson, who had a lackluster year in 2011. Look for this game to be determined by the flex and tight end positions.

Special Note from the Commish

In light of the recent controversy concerning the trade veto, I would like to take a moment to state that nothing is more important to me than the integrity of the BHFFC. While we may not always agree with one another on various topics and issues, it is important to remain as a unified front at the end of the day. Please understand that our league is designed in such a way that we have a system of checks and balances in place that prevents anyone, myself included, from attaining too much power. As such, nearly every decision that is made regarding the BHFFC is the voice of the majority of league owners and not based solely on the opinion of the commissioner. It is my hope that we can move forward and handle future conflicts of interest in a much more diplomatic and respectful manner. I love being your commissioner.
